On the development and design of Internetaleph.com - by Martín Hadis
Internetaleph is a non-profit site. It was developed
with academic and cultural goals in mind.
Motivation
The motivation for developing this site was twofold:
-
On one hand, during numerous and frequent discussions about Borges with both students and scholars, I realized that there was a strong need for further information, with many questions recurring time and again:
- What are the best ways to approach his works?
- What are the most engaging stories for beginners to read?
- Where can I buy this-or-that book by Borges?
- On the other hand, I also realized that there's a vast amount of Borges materials on the web. Again, there was no central
guide or index that would assist interested readers in finding those materials.
This site is thus meant to act both as a thorough and solid introduction to Borges' life and works, and as a central index to everything Borges on the web.
Technical data
From 2003 to 2009, this site ran on a dedicated server equipped with a 2.0 Ghz Celeron processor and 512 Mb RAM kindly housed by the University of Belgrano.
But no more - internetaleph is now running on standard hosting rackspace, and it is still as fast, or approximately as fast, as it used to be.
All pages are dynamic and the whole system was developed using ASP and proprietary functions
for data abstraction and encapsulation.

Dedication
This site is dedicated to the memory of my mother
"How is it possible for a woman or a man or a child to die, if they have been so many springtimes and so many leaves,
so many books and so many birds and so many twilights and dawns."
Jorge Luis Borges, "Abramowicz", Los Conjurados
